Pow-Wow and University of Scouting Conservation Classes

University of Scouting Feb. 2, 2008
Leave No Trace for Cub Scouts (1 hr) - Nothing keeps a boy in Scouting like hiking & camping.  We can protect the environment with the least amount of Cub Scout impact & earn the Leave No Trace Awareness Award.
11 Conservation and Scouting (2 hr) - A brief review of the role of conservation in Scouting, followed by a survey of conservation-related resources and awards available to Cub, Boy Scout, and Venturing leaders. Includes: Project W.I.L.D., including the new 'Science and Civics' program for Venturers and older Scouts, the national Conservation USA program, related merit badge programs and a review of conservation service opportunities in the area.
Project Wild (6 hrs) - Project WILD explores how people can understand wildlife and habitat and make decisions that use natural resources wisely. It is a six-hour workshop and teachers are given SBEC (State Board of Educator Certification) and TEEAC (Texas Environmental Education Advisory Committee) credit.
12 Introduction to Project WILD (2 hr) - An introduction to school age games and activities for environmental education.
Commissioner Conference Dec. 1, 2007
5175 Conservation Awards -Youth and Adult (1 hr) - What conservation awards can Scouting youth and adults earn? Information and resources; training opportunities; developing informed responsibility in the unit in the area of conservation.
84 Hornaday & Conservation Advisor Training (1 hr) - Includes examples of successful projects and key responsibilities. Avoid pitfalls. Help others complete achievements for conservation related merit badges.
85 Planning Conservation Projects for Older Scouts (2 hr) - Project ideas and activities in 'Science and Civics', a new Project W.I.L.D. program designed to teach high school age youth the concepts behind major conservation issues and to plan a project. Participants will receive a 352-page activity guide and a list of contacts for potential projects. Ideal for project advisors, merit badge counselors and high school teachers.
89 Leave No Trace (2 hr) - Don't leave home without it! A must for troops and crews. Troops around the country have gotten a lot of bad press recently because of damage to the environment. Learn how to teach and implement the LNT ethic in your unit to be better campers and better neighbors in the outdoors.
